The La Prada Drive Church of Christ is a body of believers that are members of the church that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ established. We are thankful that you have an interest in learning more about us, God’s will for your life, and the church. The following will provide some of our core beliefs. Please feel free to join us to learn more and to answer any questions you might have.
God
We believe that there is one God, eternally existing in three persons: The Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:26, Matthew 28:19, Ephesians 1:13-14)
The Word of God
We believe that the Bible is the inspired, unchanging, inerrant word of God ( 2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Peter 1:20-21 ). It is our final authority in how we understand God, believe, worship, and organize the church. In the word of God, we find our purpose and God’s will for our lives and homes.
God’s Grace and Our Response
We believe that God created man in His image to have an intimate relationship with him. Because of sin, man is separated from God and that relationship is broken (Isaiah 59:1-2). God, though, sent his Son in human form to live a perfect, sinless life and to shed his blood on the cross to pay the debt for sin that we could not pay on our own.
In response to God’s grace (Ephesians 2:8-9) and to restore that relationship we must first:
- Believe (John 3:16)
- Repent (Acts 3:19)
- Confess (Romans 10:9-10)
- Be Baptized (Acts 2:38)
The Church
We believe that the church is the body of Christ and He is the head of the church (Colossians 1:18). By responding to God’s grace and submitting to Him in baptism, we are added to the church (Acts 2:41). The purpose of the church is to be a lighthouse to the lost (Mark 16:15-16) and a loving, nurturing environment to develop disciples of Christ and to conform us into his image (Ephesians 4:1-16).
The church is not accountable to any earthly institution or creed. Rather we look to the inspired word of God to direct us in how we worship and how the church is organized. We seek to follow the pattern set forth in the New Testament.
We believe that the local church is overseen by elders who shepherd and feed the flock (Acts 14:23; Titus 1:5-9). They are assisted by deacons who serve the congregation at the direction of the elders (1 Timothy 3:8-13) and all members are saints (Philippians 1:1) who work together to fulfill the purpose of the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:12-31)
We seek to worship together, as a family of believers, in a way that glorifies God and adheres to the pattern set forth in scripture. This includes congregational singing, remembering our Lord’s death through sharing of the Lord’s supper, prayers, and hearing the word of God preached.
Discipleship and Transformation
We believe that the purpose of our lives is to look to Jesus and follow his example, will, and teaching (Hebrews 12:1-2). By doing so, our lives are transformed (Romans 12:1-2) and we can walk with Him through whatever path of life that is before us. By being added to His church, being transformed into His image, and walking by faith we will be welcomed home to heaven for all eternity.
